SRAM XX1 – The future has arrived

Did we already talked about the new group SRAM XX1 some time ago and we had interviewed the French enduro Jerome Clementz which until today was the official tester of this revolutionary transmission designed by American brand.

SRAM officially presented the new group XX1. Eleven-speed specially designed for all-mountain and enduro. The ability to mount a single crown on a bike with which you can ride them until today was only possible to those who favored a compromise in an exaggerated way to climb the slopes, or for those who used the one hundred and forty millimeters or more of its trailbike only downhill. With the new system SRAM you get maximum performance either downhill, uphill mounting only a single crown to eleven-speed transmission. With this new group is high time to turn a new page in the chapter dell'allmountain.

Check out the video SRAM has created the new group. In this first episode we talk about the development of’XX1.

We immediately start talking about the new rear derailleur, is called SRAM X-HORIZON and is a mix of new technologies to deliver maximum performance. With the innovative parallelogram with horizontal design of the cage pulleys, the distance between the front derailleur and the eleven speed remains constant. This means a snapshot speed of change and a precision micrometer. By then the system ROLLER BEARING CLUTCH™ which provides a friction roller inserted into the same derailleur the fateful “chain-slap” was significantly reduced.

Among other technologies, we must mention the’X-SYNC. This system through a more pronounced profile of the teeth of the pulleys makes sure that the chain always remains stable and well inserted inside of the cage. The teeth are twelve. The house says a weight of only 220 grams for the rear derailleur that will be available in the market starting from October 2012. Also here you will find the system CAGE Lock that in addition to making the derailleur stable during the riding allows to extract and insert the rear wheel with ease.

To think we changed then the new jackknife XX1 Trigger Shifter (also available jackknife Gripshift). Eleven click for eleven speed and ease of implementation that SRAM claims is unparalleled. Compatible with MatchMaker X, l’XX1 Shifter Trigger is made of carbon between the technologies and brings in the’X-ACTUATION which allows a consistent and coherent drive on all sprockets from ten to forty teeth. This component will be available from October 2012.

The sprocket is something very impressive when compared to those that can now be found on the market. Up to forty-two teeth in eleven different speeds, the last pinion has only ten teeth. The eleven speeds are so Relate 10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36-42. The weight of this gem is only 260 grams. Among the technologies that SRAM introduced with this sprocket we must mention the’X-DOME which consists in obtaining from a single piece of steel connecting rods that the entire package and that in addition to increasing the performance of the changed facilitates the disposal of sludge and debris. Logically, because of the last ten teeth pinion compatibility with standard hub is not valid, but already SRAM and DT Swiss are studying a new type of interface that allow you to mount the sprocket on a standard hub.

The heart of the system SRAM XX1 is without doubt the crank. A single crown and all the latest technology of the American brand. The crown has been developed to ensure that each tooth fits perfectly within the chain. Worked at CNC is available in different configurations (28-30-32-34-36-38). You can also change the crowns without removing the cranks from the bottom bracket. The weight is 650 grammi bottom bracket incluso, the arms of the cranks to contain its own weight were made of carbon. Other technologies are also the system BB30, the GPX and’X-SYNC.

Certainly many of you are wondering what it will cost the group SRAM XX1. We say that is not the best for those seeking an affordable price, but this is normal for a group that is labeled XX in plain sight. In United States will be offered to the public 1.449 $ while in Europe a 1.299 €.
